micro - this is perfect for lower back, but too heavy and bulky IMHO for ankle carry. I think you need to go with a really small pistol, which means .380 ACP (e.g., SIG P238, Ruger LCP II, Glock 42, Kahr CW 380, etc.). I've never come across a 9mm that is really that much smaller than the Springfield XD-S, so for ankle carry, I honestly believe the .380 ACPs are the way to go. Just my two cents.
