Burning Atlanta? Unadulterated evil.

...we didn't care much for George Shermans Urban Renewal Project either.

Re: "De, sometimes when I type my fat fingers accidentally hit the caps lock key and I do not even see it. Sorry. Nothing intentional...."
LOL -it happens to you too, eh?

I sometimes post and save a message, then spend so much time fixing the mistakes and changing the text that it has 15 hits on it by the time I'm done. Oh well. It's a function of age, I think...

Regarding your statement that Lincoln tried to get the Southerners to not do this . . . I disagree. If he tried, he sure didn't try hard. Bull Run, which was an invasion of a Southern state by the Northern army, took place mere months after Lincoln was sworn in.

Re: "Lincoln COULD have BOUGHT OUT the slaveholders. WOULD THEY have been WILLING to sell???? You know that for a fact?"Of course not. How could I? What I do know for certain is that Lincoln didn't even try. But why would he? Slavery had nothing to do with the war. 'Freeing the slaves' was just revisionist propaganda to help a guilty North justify something reprehensible. I mean, really: Burning Atlanta? Unadulterated evil. I mean today, sure. But back then? Atlanta used to be a nice place!

You think Lincoln was a great President. I think he was our worst President. The truth is probably somewhere in between. After all, Lincoln inherited a very, VERY difficult situation. I'll admit that. But his handling of it was the worst. Preserving the Union at such a price was not worth it. And killing should be the last resort, not the first.

Re: "SO, if I disagree with someone strongly enough and think it will bring me some fame and everyone wil like me where I come from, it's okay in your opinion to murder them in cold blood, warm blood, any blood? Perhaps more than anything else political, this one statement you made is really disturbing to me."Actually, I said 'I'm in the "cannot stand Lincoln" camp. And, yes, I can respect what Booth did. Lincoln certainly had it coming.'

I stand by that - for the same reason that I would respect a Polish or Hungarian patriot who'd managed to pump a bullet into Stalin.

I just found a brief History channel video you might enjoy about the culprits behind and the motives for killing Abraham Lincoln. You said something about Booth wanting fame. I don't think that's it at all but would be very interested in hearing why you do. This documentary concludes that the motives will never be discerned.
