Nobody should buy a new car if they don't have the money. As you well know, $5,000 or less buys a very nice used car. $2,500 will buy something that's good enough until a person has more money.

Debt is a terrible thing. People need to make a serious effort to avoid it. I'm tempted, in fact, to advise against taking out a loan even to buy a house. But I won't go quite that far. I rented homes for 13 years and absolutely hated it.
