I see deer on my property every so often, but it's been a bit more frequent over the last month. Yesterday, I glanced out the window and saw a deer - a doe, apparently - with her fawn just behind the house. The doe walked to the trees, but the fawn walked toward the middle of the field where the grass is deep.

I went to get my wife since I thought she'd like to see this. We each took a window, but I didn't see the fawn again. My wife did, though. She said he had wandered into the very deep grass against the compost pile and was occasionally poking his head up. I kept watching, and after several minutes the doe headed into the forest and was gone. I figured that the fawn had probably joined her. Or maybe not. I grabbed my camera and went outside to look for him, and as you'll see from the video above, the doe came back.

After a bit, I went and looked around the compost pile but found no sign of the fawn.

Today I was mowing around the compost pile and practically ran the little guy over! I was right alongside the compost pile's completely overgrown "fence" when I saw what I first thought might be a cat or fox amidst the grass. Then he stood up. I only then realized that this was yesterday's fawn, no more than a foot away from one of my tractor's tires. I'm lucky I didn't run him over! This guy was really small... standing just taller than my knees. He made his way to the far side of the compost pile and I lost him in the vines and grass growing there.

I went inside to get my camera, came back and searched for him on foot. Same result as yesterday. I'm sure he was still there, but he can really hide!!

I never did see his mama today. The sun was setting and I headed indoors to see the President's speech. I trust that she returned for her baby.
