Perhaps it is like mine - overwhelmingly populated by whites - in which case of course they are doing the lion's share of the shoplifting. But I don't think your local observation is even remotely accurate nationwide.

I haven't been able to find full shoplifting demographics for the United States. However, I have been able to find 2015 crime demographics that include larceny, and shoplifting is one form of larceny. See the FBI table, below.

What the FBI larceny totals show is that 69.5% of arrests were of Caucasians + Latinos (aka "whites") while 27.4% were of Blacks. However, white people made up 77.7% of the U.S. population (per Wikipedia, in 2013) while black people made up just 12.6%. This means that on a per capita basis, blacks are being arrested for larceny at about 2.45 times the rate of whites.

But even that isn't right. You and I both know that "Latinos" are not what normal people ever mean when they're talking about "Whites." Unfortunately, the FBI lumps Caucasians and Latinos together, and that makes Caucasians look worse than they should. How much worse? Get a load of this statement from a 2005 article on shoplifting. It's an eye-opener. It's hard to escape a conclusion that someone out there WANTS Caucasians to look bad.
Hispanic females stole the most, shoplifting at more than seven times the rate of white females

Every racial ethnicity group always has its own bad apples that cast a bad light on the majority of people...

That is the shame of it... Sad
