...some folks me and the mz know built a log cabin type home in the woods. It wasn't a junk place, it was really nice except at some point in the building process they told the architect and the builder to STFU and build what they ordered. No more changes. It was a two story with finished upstairs and downstairs and not a closet anywhere in it. The architect and the builder gave em exactly what they ordered.

We don't want the basement to have an exit.

...ya will if there's a fire and you are caught downstairs.

...ya might want to have it open to the inside so ya can get out when it snows.
