I have never understood this. Why is the man supposed to pay for every single dinner and/or drinks?

I couldn't do that. Dutch treat and that's final.

Eliminates the expectations on both ends.

...that is not a new trend. It's been going on since before man and woman came down out of the trees or caves or whatever.
