Micro - I am in your boat yet my vehicle of choice is a Nissan Maxima - specifically the late 1996 thru all of 1997 Maxima GLE - the loaded version. I bought my first one in 1998 with 42,000 miles on it and then drove it to 304,200 when the head gasket finally did me in and warped the block beyond repair. SO I found one almost identical to the first one and took all of what I thought was good and put it on the new one. My newest one had 191,000 on it and now has 211,000 and not a single issue other than one design flaw. They used a plastic plug for brake light circuit from the pedal that rots and had a proclivity to fall apart. I remembered quickly how to fix that, as I had fixed one before, so it was no big deal. Ohh yea - even with replacing head gaskets on the newest one I only have $2,300 in her and I figure I should be good for at least another 100-200,000 miles. :-) Sadly Detroit car management folks went to a designed obsolescence profit model vs quality open market competition.

De.
Glad ya finally saw the light. I bought my last American made auto in 1996 and kept it 9 years before starting to buy nothing but Asian autos. Japanese and Korean.

Funny thing happened.

I have not had ONE SINGLE thing except routine maintenance to take care of any of these vehicles with over 300,000 miles of driving put on them.

One Kia, One Hyundai, and one Mitsubishi.

My wife wants a compact SUV for thenext vehicle and I will have a nice well maintained 2004 Kia Optima for sale. Now it has only 91,000 miles on it.

No more American cars for me period. JUNK and not well made...
