Re: "Prepare your soil now with composted manure on a slight slope for good drainage in full sun and in late October you will be ready to plant."
Thanks for the suggestion!! I think I know just the spot.

There is a discount store in my area that has deals on various things at different times of the year. I go there pretty often just to see what they have "THIS week." So, a couple of weeks ago I bought a whole bunch of plant bulbs and roots: Onions, Potatoes, Strawberries,"Astilbe Chocolate Kiss" flowers, Dahlias ("Dazzling Dreams" blend and also "A Little Romance" blend), and Lilies, all for $4 a bag. I picked up some of almost everything . . . except some flowers and the garlic. The reason I skipped on the garlic was that I figured it was probably too late to plant them this year in order to get a crop - and will they survive the winter? I know the potatoes won't, but then I'll be digging them up in the fall. Garlic, though... hm. I may have to go back and get them if they're still available.

Meanwhile, I need to go plant all this stuff. Today, until 6 p.m. when it's supposed to rain, is perfect...

Gold is $1,581/oz today. When it hits $2,000, it will be up 26.5%. Let's see how long that takes. - De 3/11/2013 - ANSWER: 7 Years, 5 Months

"On Facebook, censorship is so prevalent that I scarcely see most of my friends' messages anymore."

Same here so the solution was to go to the FB pages of people whom I want to hear from and under the "Friends" tab click "Get notifications" and your news feed will populate when they make any post.

On another note - your barn looks awesome!! While I know you have planting plans already I have not seen any posts about growing one extremely important crop: GARLIC!! I have been growing garlic & French Grey shallots for over a decade and my suggestion is to go to local farmers markets and in another few months & buy some local garlic seed stock. It will be $20+ a pound yet well worth it. I suggest using hardneck varieties for your climate PLUS they produce a central flower stalk called a scape that is delicious in stir fry and also as a pesto. I harvested most of my scapes this year and will make pesto that I freeze in individual cubes - vac pack them and put in the freezer. I just ate the last of my pesto from last year and one cube is perfect for 2 burgers or grilled chicken sandwiches or smashed cauliflower. You get the idea! PLUS your planted garlic will yield a 5X +/- return. Prepare your soil now with composted manure on a slight slope for good drainage in full sun and in late October you will be ready to plant. Keep it weeded and in June you will harvest scapes and in July harvest your garlic and hang in your barn to cure. Also get some local honey and ferment some garlic for cases of curing illnesses quicker. Feel poor? Eat a fermented garlic clove in the am and pm and your illness will depart much faster. The best overall variety for fermented garlic is a porcelain called Romanian Red as it has been tested and contains the most allicin. Be glad to help if you have additional questions.

PEACE y'all
