Following months of rumors that the illustrious daytime television star would not be returning after her current contract expired in 2020, Ellen DeGeneres announced on Tuesday that she had signed a deal to renew her show and keep her on-air through 2022.
DeGeneres sought to capitalize off the rumors, attempting to fake-out her audience by beginning her announcement on a nostalgic note.
"[From] the beginning I said this show was going to be like a relationship. We’ve been through the good, the bad. It’s been a lot of fun and 16 years is a pretty good run. Sometimes in a relationship, you need to take a break..." she said, before surprising her audience with: "But I don’t. You’re stuck with me. I just signed for three more years."
Hats off to the beloved daytime TV legend.
