One day, someone took the boat out onto the open ocean and ran out of gas. The guy had to call for rescue and deal with the aftermath of his stupidity. It seems he'd forgotten to fill the tank.

My dad was the new base commander. He read the guy the riot act, of course. Then he put a SEALED gas can on the boat and posted orders that if that seal were ever broken, whoever did it would catch holy hell from him. Guess what? Nobody ever ran out of gas again.

My Dad once told me that his boss, a general who oversaw several similar stations, told him that he was constantly dealing with stupid, avoidable problems at the radar stations under his charge. "Except for yours," he said.

"Why is it that nothing ever goes wrong in Cambria?"

LOL. My dad ran a tight ship. He didn't let problems repeat and never passed them on to his boss. That was one of the secrets to his considerable success.
