Good morning De !

After a hard day of planting seedling starts for your food supply along with mrs. De, I am sure that you do not need this additional frustration and attempted scam.

What my intention for pointing out the specifications of theprocessor to you were, was that earlier you had mentioned that the 4900MQ CPU ran at 3.8 Ghz while the other was only at 2.8 Ghz.

That was incorrect. BOTH ran STOCK at 2.8 Ghz and could be run on Turbo at 3.8 Ghz .

As yo point out , the real differences are in the CACHE for processing.

I looked ahead on the Intel processor site at some newer generations of the I7 Mobile processors to see at whcich generation one needed to ne at in order to acheive 3.8 Ghz stock speed. Substantialy newer generation is the answer. I can't remember if it was Gen 6 but I think it was.

I just wanted you to be aware that the processor you WANT stillonly operates at base speed at 2.8 Ghz and not 3.8 Ghz, which is why I furnished the Intel webpage so you could see the full specs yourself.

I do hope that the supplier actually acts on your concerns and does a real live test and check of the CPU in system information.

Best wishes for a happyoutcome this time around! It's got to be aggravating....

micro..

Re: "This is the processor from Intel's website. While you mentioned they sent you a I7 4810MQ , which is incorrect, the I7 4900 MQ unless it is running onturbo speed is not going to reach 3.8 Ghz speed. "
I looked at that page earlier. In fact, I pulled it up and the one for the i7-4810MQ processor and compared them line by line. The two processors are very similar, only differing in 3 or 4 places. Each difference favors the i7-4900MQ, btw. The most important difference, imo, is the Smartcache: 6MB -vs- 8MB, which is a LOT when on-cpu memory matters.

Note that intel prices the i7-4900MQ at $570. It prices the i7-4810MQ at $380. That's a big difference!

I'm aware that the processor doesn't run at 3.8Ghz, except as needed. We could overclock it. That may come at a price. Sometimes, when systems are overclocked, the processor's life is shortened (due to heat.) There's probably a good reason that the base frequency is just 2.8Ghz. Both cpus are like this, by the way.

We received our return tag from the vendor and will send the laptop back for exchange tomorrow. We did ask the vendor to actually boot the replacement system and verify the cpu is what it's supposed to be... don't just trust whatever's written on its cardboard box.
Hopefully they'll take our request seriously. I really don't want to have to return a third unit.

Quite a scam though, don't you think? Someone may be doing this with THOUSANDS of laptops... substituting a cheap processor for an expensive one, then selling the expensive one. They could be making millions, and where's the risk if the companies involved don't view the scam as CRIMINAL?
