De
here is the problem.
WHERE do your rights or liberties stop or end?

The answer has been stated here myriads of times by Ribs and others. They stop when they infringe on mine or mine on yours.

IF it is something that people refuse to apply common sense to and it gets abused chronically and constantly, then maybe we need to rethink that....

I would not want my wife in a jet coming in for a landing, and some nitwit whether willfully or unintentionally shines a laser beam into the pilot's eyes and he crashes the plane and my wife is now dead, among others....

THAT INVENTION, or toy, can kill quickly and easily. So, there is a fine line here.

Remember the reason the framers of the Constitution had the 2nd amendment? It was so we would never be forced to be subjugatedand fight back to overthrow a tyrannical government or despot leader. THAT RIGHT was not including these gadgets and guarantees them nothing...

The 2nd amendment was very specific and the reasoning behind also was a direct result from the oppression of tyrant across the ocean..

We cannot say that about these new gadgets today which are used incorrectly sometimes accidentally, somertimes on purpose...

"I am sorry" does not bring back my dead wife , or yours.
And no, you nor I will not feel any better thinking that well, I am sure we allowed that person to be able to use a laser light beam to blind pilots of passenjer jets. Glad we dd not take away his right to own one...

That would be a little too late... And nobody is going to be deprived if they don;t get to have a laserbeam as toy or to use for terror. Let's not make it easy for the bad guys to kill the innocent....

The right to bear arms is one thing entirely different...

To follow your and Zim's logic, I would ask why we are not allowed to have certain explosive materials or buy plutonium? After all, we don;t want to deprive anyone of their rights to own ANYTHING even if people abuse it, right?

Lasers and drones are not defensive weapons to defend oneself like a rifle or pistol is. They are totaly different and therefore I would disagree that everyone is entitled to one.

JMO YMMV
Very Happy

micro and Zimbler0:

Re: "I'm going to have to disagree with you on this one Boss. We the People have the right to bear arms. We should also have the same right to have and use drones and laser pointers."
I'm with Zimbler0. We're a free people, are we not? Woe unto us when our government - which exists to serve us, remember - decides it must ban useful things because someone who doesn't understand their use deems them dangerous. I'm still ticked off that I can't find either ammonium nitrate or ammonium sulfate at any of my local garden stores. I *loved* that stuff. A small amount was wonderful for a garden or lawn. (Too much, of course, would burn the heck out of them, but I soon learned.)

As time passes, there will be more and more inventions and discoveries with the potential to be abused. The question is, are we going to continue surrendering our liberties for the sake of innovation and development, or are we going to re-learn what we once knew, that freedom comes with both risk and responsibility? The statement "Give me liberty or give me death" was uttered a LONG time ago. Americans used to swear by it. I'm not so sure they do anymore.
