Today has been aggravating. At 0630, while I was using my laptop, the internet went down. I didn't think too much of it. The internet fails every now and then. You wait a bit and it usually recovers. I went to sleep.
`
Two hours later, it was still down. I tried my other browsers. They all reported that the server could not be reached... or something to that effect. I got out of bed and checked the house phone - which is internet based. There was a dial tone. The problem started getting interesting. I checked my Chromebook. It worked fine. Hmmm. So only my windows laptop was failing.
`
I wanted to check my system's settings against my wife's, since she too runs Windows 10. She was still sleeping, so I did an AVG virus scan. And a Malwarebytes scan. And a Registry repair. And a Disk Analysis / Repair. I reset the router. I told Windows to "forget" my network service, and I then re-established it from scratch. I deleted all my temporary files including cookies. Everything came up negative. I performed a Windows Network Analysis. It at least complained... saying that 'Windows Could not Automatically Detect Network's Proxy Settings'.
`
The internet has two recommendations for this problem. The first is to run something called "inetcpl.cpl" and check the Lan settings to "see if they're okay." My wife was up now, so I did that, comparing my laptop's settings against hers. They were identical. The second fix is to do a "netsh int ip reset resetlog.txt" from the command prompt to reset TCP/IP on the laptop. That didn't help either.
`
It occurred to me that maybe my internet was being blocked by the ISP. So my wife set her phone up as an internet hot spot and I tried connecting to it. Still no internet. So that ruled out everything but my laptop.
`
The only idea I had left was that the on-board network card may have failed.
`
We got on Amazon and ordered an external card for $7. It will arrive tomorrow. I'm not optimistic, but if it saves me from having to buy another laptop then it's a small price to pay.
`
Meanwhile, I'm on my Chromebook... and, wow, what a pain IT is! I've been trying to import a few key files from the Windows laptop and it's like pulling teeth. I've finally gotten my templates over to it, but of course there is no Dragon Naturally Speaking. I feel like I've been set back about ten years. #$@!

Gold is $1,581/oz today. When it hits $2,000, it will be up 26.5%. Let's see how long that takes. - De 3/11/2013 - ANSWER: 7 Years, 5 Months
