Its amazing how many dining room sets are on the free ads. Along with pianos and any kinda of furniture you can imagine..........all free.......... As you both say . they are a hard sell......

listen to your wife. Shew as right. Went thru that selling off my parents furniture. Only their formal dining room was solid OAK and could seat 12 around it. Same for the Buffet and formal hutch. Solid Pecan. No pressed wood or laminate.
I took pics, posted it on let go and craigs list, asked 750 dollars for it and got NOTHING in response.
Today, if you have a smallish piece of JUNK that a millenial thinks is cool, you have a fortune there.
No accounting for bad taste.
I had a real Cherry wood dining table and matching bow chairs made by the Amish Wood workers near me. Nothing but real wood and beeswax protected. You don;t want to know what it cost but it will be in the family long after I am gone...
The table is ROUND and expands by three feet. (3 one foot wide leaves will fit) Seats 12. Nicely.
Anyway, you and your wife were right. THAT traditional style has left this generation because they never learned anything and they are cheap and mostly unemploted...
