I agree with ya.

My mother used to read to me every night and when I started the first grade she told me that she was not going to read me any more bed time stories, that I was going to have to learn to read for myself. I did.

Some times it's the parents and sometimes it's their peers. If a black kid tries to do the right things to be successful he will be accused of "acting white". His chances of being killed by one of his friends are better than his chances of dying of old age. Then ya gotta consider the leaders of his community in politics, sports, and the media who tell him constantly that he is a victim and cannot succeed. He is being programmed for failure.

...BTW: I have a stack of a couple hundred children's books that I have read to my grandkids many times. If I have to read Green Eggs and Ham one more time I think I will die. They are in the top tier of their class and one of em was advanced ahead a grade.

...their mama home schooled em all the way thru grammar school too.

Neither me nor decomp believe it is a case of some students being smarter than others. It is a case of cultural infanticide.

Liberals are like a "Slinky". Totally useless, but somehow ya can't help but smile when you see one tumble down a flight of stairs!

Ribit > The problem couldn't possibly be that some races just have more smart students than others, so.... what to do?

I don't think the problem is that certain races are necessarily smarter than
others . . . I think it has more to do with what happens to the kids BEFORE
they get to school.

When I was small my Mama read to us kids. I have two wanna-be-Phillipino
grand sons - about two and four. And they know what the alphabet is, and
some knowledge of numbers and, of course, their colors.

Somewhere I read that many white parents see that their kids know the
alphabet and their colors and numbers before going to first grade. And
that many black Mama's think it is the schools job to teach their childrens
the alphabet, colors, numbers, etc.

When one group of childrens start out behind their peers . . . they have a
tendency to stay that way.

Zim.
