Re: "Did he arrive safely, DE?"Whoops. I forgot to check...

Oh yeah, right!
-----------------

Just kidding. Things went swimmingly. His plane arrived half an hour late due to a microburst that forced it to circle, but once he got down he made it through immigration and customs SO quickly that he was on a subway train half an hour earlier than expected.

He can read the newspaper in Japanese.
-----------

(The subway station is in the airport.) From there, straight to the hostel. He had a great five-hour nap and can stay another two hours before he has to leave. He says the hostel is worlds better than the one he used in DC a few months ago. Big surprise there, eh?

ANYWHERE can be better than DC - and I am tawking about the slums of India.

---------

He's got a 20 minute walk from the hostel to his dorm, then he'll have an interview, pay his rent money and get a room. He's very nervous about the interview even though I kept telling him that they aren't going to turn him away NOW. They wouldn't really say what the interview's purpose is, though. Just, "Oh, do not worry, Joey-san." I figure they might be checking to see what sort of a girl he wants as his roommate.

-----------

Everything causes anxiety on your first day in a foreign country. A gurrrlll as his roommate?
Chip off the 'ole block, huh?
-----------

He's checking into the dorm a few days early, so he'll have lots of time to figure out where things are.

He's staying in an off-campus dorm that students from several Tokyo universities use. It's just a 5-minute walk to the school, though, or so he thinks. He'll find out soon enough.
-----------

Is Mrs. DE a very calm person? Because I am not. I would be face-timing the kid every 5 minutes. Well, if I KNEW how to face-time, which I don't. SHOCKING!
---------------

I've asked him to send lots of photos. Maybe I'll bore you guys by posting some of them here.

My vote is YES. Most of us will never go to Japan in our lifetimes. Pictures would be terrific, imo.

(I might be the only one, ssshhhhhh)
