the horros of battles of the civil war time are unimaginable. I have vivid memories of things I saw in Nam in battles that sometimes recur in my dreams and send chills and cold sweats down my spine. The Civil War medicine was primitive, pathetic, and often was worse than the injuries suffered.
One cannot imagine what your grandparent saw or was exposed to but you know it was bad....

My faith is the only thing that keeps me steady and for most part calm. I had PTSD for some time but have conquered it and am not troubled by it much anymore. You just cannot get rid of what your memory saw and experienced.
Best to you kind sir!

I too have ancesters that fought and died to free the slaves

I remember you have said that.

My 3rd great-grandfather was a Presbyterian minister for many years, including the Civil War years. His son, Alexander, was also ordained. But, then he went to war (with an Ohio regiment). When he got out he resigned his ordination. I haven’t researched where he fought but one can omly imagine what he saw that rocked his faith.
