Sugar has congenial heart disease. There is no cure. Best they can do is give me meds to give her that will make her blood flow more easily.... Her heart is missing a beat and some times pumps her blood backwards. Nothing they casn do. Sugar and I am just along for the proverbial ride till we are done. She gets all the love she needs and more. When she wants more loveies, out of nowhere she will come running and jump and i swear she flies for 4 feet and lands on my lap. She is such a love child.....LOL

I was going to say she might need a blood thinner, which would make her blood flow more easily.
Nemo, there are meds for the heart missing a beat. I believe she has atrial fibrillation. That is exactly what "missing a beat" means, or when the heart is racing, as in having a high pulse.
Pumping the blood backwards is called regurgitation.
It happens in humans, too.
Generally, it is a heart valve that is malfunctioning.
Unfortunately, it CAN be treated with meds, but ONLY until surgery is scheduled.

This is sickening to hear.
If a vet told you there was nothing they could do, and if you can afford it, I would try another vet.
