Angie:
The point, really, is that Joe spent a lot of time writing pretentious disquisitions that nobody cared to read.
=========
Your point is duly noted. Bottom line is that he had an air about his posts that were indicative of his arrogance, which is more than likely why you hated to read his elaborate missives about any subject.
The Urban Dictionary summarized it much better than I can:
Behaving in an attention-seeking manner via presenting oneself on the surface as being intelligent, provocative, important, avant-garde, humorous or significant, yet harboring ulterior motives, typically involving some form of personal gratification or material gain (e.g. advancement in social status, career, wealth, etc.).
Note that using this word is often conflated to be a pretentious act in and of itself, as this word is frequently used as a way to easily discredit people, works of art, ideas or statements while simultaneously boosting one's own status.

I learned early on not to read them. His habit of always referring to himself as "we" made my skin crawl. In any case, he thought he sounded intelligent. He was mistaken.
DE, I am sure glad you are not judgmental! Ewwww, he referred to himself as "we?" I don't remember that. But he could have been ahead of his time, so to speak, and meant "wee" as in "wee wee" meaning number one (# 1 ) in our discussion about toilet paper.
Isn't that a weird expression "skin crawl?"
"..........Definition of 'to make your skin crawl'. to make your skin crawl. or make sb's flesh crawl. phrase. If something makes your skin crawl or makes your flesh crawl, it makes you feel shocked or disgusted. I hated this man, his very touch made my skin crawl. ....."

Disgusted, DE? LOL.
I got your point, though!
Have a good day!
If you think education is expensive, try ignorance.
