Obamacare was marketed as the AFFORDABLE Care Act, yet it made no attempt to lower medical costs. That's what needs to be done. Some changes that would actually make a difference include:

1) Define and implement low ceilings on malpractice suit awards, except in cases where the malpractice rises to the level of "criminal."

2) Allow trained medics, nurses and even FAMILY to obtain supplies and treat certain kinds of problems. It shouldn't be necessary to see a doctor to get stitches, get a referral to a specialist, get antibiotics or obtain a prescription renewal.
`
3) Low tier coverage should be available. I don't have to insure my car for millions of dollars. Why should I only be able to buy medical insurance that goes way beyond my need? I should be able to pick and choose the specific things I want to have covered. For that matter, I shouldn't be required to buy coverage at all.
`
4) Hospitals should be relieved of the requirement to treat people who cannot pay for services. What they're doing today is absurd. If they provide free medical care to some people, then naturally they have to pass the costs on to others. Any business would.
