"FIXING" is a Southern Word kinda like "Gettin Ready". Fixing to make chili means getting ready to make chili. Fixing is the stuff you have to get together while you is getting ready to make chili. How would it sound if anybody wuz to say I am fixing to make chili with some ingredients. Sound like the chili will be inedible.

mz ribit is gonna make me some chili today. She didn't tell me, but I seen all the fixings laid out. When I get up early and start spying around on what's for lunch I am like a kid hunting for their christmas toys whilst the parents is out.
