My uncle was the ordnance guy for his unit in the European Theater of WWII. He carried everything for a while ... M-1 Garand, M-1 Carbine, BAR, and even a German MP40 that he modified to slow down the excessive cyclical rate ... but, he preferred to carry the Thompson.
