The other day I bought something and the total came up as $4.77. I gave her a five and, as she was ringing it up, I said I also had two pennies, thinking it would simplify the change. She looked at me like I had paid her in Chineese yuan. I think she was resenting the idea that she would have to void the transaction and start over to find out what the change should be. I finally told her that if she gave me a quarter I would leave happy.
