Re: "I don’t know what you mean by a ‘dumb phone’ but I have a flip phone and it is adequate for texting. I do it all the time."
I call any cell phone that isn't a smart phone a dumb phone.

While my phone CAN text, it's a pain. My vision isn't very good, and seeing the letters is difficult. Often, I'm not even in the right mode and the letters display instead as symbols. The display is dim and if I'm outdoors, I can't see that I'm typing gibberish. Since my phone can only text to phone numbers that I enter, it's easier to just dial the number and talk.

Receiving texts is much worse than sending them since those who text me often use voice recognition to send long texts that transmit in pieces that my phone lists in reverse order. Since reading them in the right order is a huge hassle (only the first text in the series even says who the sender is), I don't read them at all.

There have been times when I've received a text message and tried responding to it only to have a second text come in while I'm responding, destroying what I've been typing.

Then there is a whole other aspect to my decision - which is that texts are probably stored elsewhere and can definitely be intercepted. The only intelligent way for folks to text is over a VPN such as SIGNAL. And that would require a smart phone I don't have.

Folks who have something to say can call or e-mail me.
