About 850,000 employees work at agencies subject to shutdown; about 41 percent of those employees would be subject to furloughs.
Many federal employees deemed critical will remain on the job but won’t be paid until the shutdown ends. That will include 41,000 federal law enforcement and correctional officers and up to 88 percent of Department of Homeland Security employees, including 50,000 TSA agents, according to data compiled by Senate Democrats.
