Attempt #2...

We didn't get all that much snow last night, two inches I would guess, but it came down on a driveway already coated with enough freezing rain to make clearing it more important - and more difficult.

This morning, my wife told me that she had to go into town to mail something. I don't know why she couldn't just put it in our mailbox and tip the little flag dealey up, but she said she couldn't and that was that. After last night's experience on the driveway, I thought I'd better give her some good advice and told her to be sure to walk on the right. I'm not sure what I was thinking. When coming down the driveway, you want to walk on the right. Going up, you need to stay to the left.

She only fell twice. She did okay.

While she was out, I checked the forecast and saw that fog of all things would be coming in. Fog normally isn't a problem, except that after a snowstorm, fog turns all that white, fluffy stuff into ice. Ice is a much bigger problem than snow.

With my wife gone, I suited up, grabbed the shovel and began to clear the driveway up near the street, especially around the mailbox. That last part is a requirement of the USPS.

My wife came back and had quite a laugh (NOT) over my little mistake - telling her to walk on the icier side of the driveway. But she headed indoors while I kept shoveling. No more falls for her.

I didn't fare as well. She was scarcely gone and I was starting to shovel where she had taken her second fall, when WHAM!, I was on my back. It was one of those falls where you want to stay down for a bit, assessing yourself and kind of hoping an ambulance might show up. I'd hit my head on the ice, and my back and neck both hurt, but I seemed to be okay. I got back up and continued shoveling, but with considerably more caution.

Guys, I was being careful but I fell 5 times. After that last one, just a few minutes ago, I decided to pack it in. I actually felt nauseous and thought it was possible that I was going to pass out (which I've never done.) Oh well, the driveway is fairly clear of snow at this point and there is nothing at all that I can do about the thick layer of ice. Looking outside, I can see that the fog is coming in...

Jeez, my ears are ringing...

Gold is $1,581/oz today. When it hits $2,000, it will be up 26.5%. Let's see how long that takes. - De 3/11/2013 - ANSWER: 7 Years, 5 Months
