...I learnt to drive trains in the attic of my house. I had a lionel set up tracks put down on a plywood board. I also had one of the engineers hat which I didn't think was a bit nerdish. Somedays I just couldn't decide whether I should wear my engineer cap or my WWI leather flying helmet complete with goggles.

Yes, that's mostly true. The extension cord (blue, like our sky, so it's hard to see) that keeps the moon lit also keeps that side facing the Earth. Here's a diagram from Scientifick American that explains it. I've gotta say, though, I'm kind of surprised they didn't teach you this stuff when you were learning how to drive trains.
