As most in here already know, I keep my very own personal mutual
fund - named 'MadMutt'. It's purpose is to enable me to honestly
determine whether or not I am making money or losing money.
I calculate the NAV, and the number of imaginary shares. When I
buy more stuff for my portfolio I 'buy' more shares in MadMutt
and when I get dividends I 'sell' shares.
At the end of 2017 the NAV was $22.10.
At the end of 2018 the NAV is $23.03. For about a 4% gain for the year.
The total value of MadMutt is up about 8% for the year - but the
majority of that is from purchases. December was a very bad month.
MadMutt lost around 4% of its value over the month.
