LOL"One benefit of living in a house with a pool (which my family did until summer 2017) was that we were able to appropriate a free swimming pool tarp when the owner bought a replacement. It had a few holes but it's a huge, thick tarp. One that size would have to run a few hundred dollars. We used it this fall to completely cover the 22 foot travel trailer... and there was tarp to spare.

After covering the trailer, we wrapped a rope around the whole thing and tied it tight. I also leaned some saw horses and pallets against the draped portion of the tarp and thought that would do it. Nope. Earlier this week, I noticed that the tarp was now hanging over the rope and not being held by it. Clearly, wind blowing under the trailer had pushed up on the entire tarp with some serious force. I was on the way into town and figured I'd have to fix it when I got back. There wasn't much wind, so . . . . But when I got back, the tarp was off the trailer. %@#$!

That sucker was heavy. And it involved two of us being up on tall step ladders. And the temperature must have been in the low 20s. But, hey, we were just lucky that the snow had all melted off. Without snow, the tarp was fairly easy to put back on, though parts of it had ice bonding to it, making it difficult to unfurl. Then again, the snow on the roof of the trailer and pressed against the trailer's sides was probably the main reason why the tarp stayed on as long as it did. Without snow, there was nothing preventing the tarp from blowing off. So I guess snow-vs-no snow is a double-edged sword. It's a problem when it's there and it's a problem when it's not.

After getting the trailer covered again, we ran rope UNDER the trailer, tying the tarp that way. No amount of wind is going to lift it off a second time. Not this season, at least.
