A combination of politics, and an enemy funded by another enemy.
Never ending War.
The Russians lost in Afghanistan for the same reason. Never ending
War funded mostly by we Americans.
President Bush had the right idea. Minimal American presence
in Afghanistan. Hammer the aiders and abetters of al-qaida
and let the Afghans sort everything else out.
I'd like to keep a contingent of American forces in Afghanistan.
Mostly to keep the talban from ever getting the upper hand.
If I was Trump, I'd tell the Russians, "You don't like all those
drugs coming out of Afghanistan and going into Russia? You'd better
help U.S. out here because we are not there for drug eradication."
And I'd tell the stinking Iranians "You don't like Americans on
your border? Then you'd better help turn Afghanistan into a real
country with a decent government dedicated to law and order and
adherence to international law. With no terrorists in it."
Because the real reason we are in Afghanistan at all is because
'somebody' funded al-qaida in this dirt poor armpit of the world
enabling them to attack U.S.
Zim.
