It's not so easily done. Have you ever watched a drone? When you track it upward, it's very difficult to see at only 100 yards. If you tried pointing it out to a passerby who didn't track it from the launch, he'd never spot it. It's like trying to find a fly in the night sky (or a white moth in a bright sky.)

Now consider that with a small antenna attached to the transmitter, a $150 drone can be controlled at a distance of a mile or more. That makes tracking down the pilot pretty difficult. I'm not saying it can't be done, but little drones are usually only in the air for twenty minutes or so. In that time, you want to spot it, shoot it down and find its owner? Doing any of those things is asking a lot.

Gold is $1,581/oz today. When it hits $2,000, it will be up 26.5%. Let's see how long that takes. - De 3/11/2013 - ANSWER: 7 Years, 5 Months

I do not understand why they don't just shoot them down - IMMEDIATELY. These drones are in restricted air space ... the airport authorities don't need any other reason than that to take them out. If they don't already have the technology in place, they need to set up a system around the airport that tracks the signal back to the operators.
