But ribit, if you say, "it's a minorities job program" you are insinuating that teachers are not dedicated, and do not have the children's interest at heart. I believe, and I could be wrong, THAT is not the case.

...we have teachers in the metro atlanta area who can barely read and write themselves.

...I just think a lack of funding isn't the problem.

On this we agree. My point in mentioning money was that the schools are too top-heavy. There is no reason for half of these jobs, and they make too much money.

--------------------

They should quit hiring people out of a teachers college and start hiring former drill instructors to teach

They do have what is called, "alternate route" for teachers. The interested candidates don't have to attend college, the old-fashioned way, and they can gain their skills through a local college. Here's the problem: they did not have enough candidates. When you can't fill a classroom of drill instructors, then the teachers who were to educate the alternate route students lost their jobs. It snowballed into a mess. It was not a success. I just read where they are still trying.

-------------

Trust me, they could do the job.

Oh, but I do trust you on this issue. They absolutely could do the job. But do you know anyone with a degree in education who wants to start at 40K per year? I happen to think that is a fair beginning salary, but most people do not.

------------------

Seems we agree on the whole mess.

LET'S RECRUIT ALL AVAILABLE FORMER DRILL INSTRUCTORS.

I just want them to know that you can't scream in a kid's ear, tell them to run 5 miles without water or almost any kind of discipline because it really is corporal punishment - I know it sucks, but that is the reality of the situation.

Let's move on - you're too funny to waste on this.

Smile))
