armed grandpa's sitting in the lobby with their shotguns might work too. It would cost a lot less.
Ribit - while I think your idea is terrific, you are tawking about a public school. They are at the mercy of the local Board of Education, then the State and finally, the feds.
You know the pro-gun/ versus anti-gun proponents are out in full force. Too many shootings of late, so it must be the guns' fault. (ohgod)
ribit, I wish there were an easy, quick and cost-effective solution to this problem, but there is not.
Now, what some schools are doing is having drop boxes outside of the front doors. Kid forgets his lunch, drop it in the box. Same thing with homework or a project that is due. Now, to add to the top-heavy administration, the two secretaries now have an assistant- secretary to unload the drop-box.
Maybe your real estate taxes aren't high, but mine were. 80% of the tax bill was for the school systems. You might be interested in looking for the newly-hired personnel in your local paper. There are superintendents, vice-superintendents, child-study team (social worker, psychologist, school nurse and the Director of the child study team, in addition to two teachers - and they are the only volunteers - the rest are overpaid positions).
Curriculum coordinator: $150 grand to make sh*t up for the teachers to do? This is dictated by the state (and the glorious feds again), and it is to conform to whatever standard/s Trenton can come up with.
Just add up what the top-heavy administrators receive as compensation, and you will find a tremendous amount of waste. The average person does not even know who is working in the schools and how much waste there is. There is NO reason for an elementary school principal to have an assistant. NONE.
So, while I agree that armed grandpas could be a solution to the school gun situation, I am telling you that the hoops you'd have to go through would be tremendous. It would take an Act of Congress to get anywhere in this regard.
LET'S NOT FORGET ABOUT CONGRESS. They'll have to weigh in on this, too.
.........and the beat goes on....
good morning!
