In some norther-eastern state (I think it was NY), some 80% of people who registered the first time refused to re-register every year. Their state politicians demanded that the police go seize those now-unregistered weapons.

The police response? "YOU go get them. We won't do it. They have GUNS."

Smart cops.

The State of Connecticut has had nothing but headaches with its 2013 ban on "assault rifles" and their standard capacity magazines - thousands upon thousands upon thousands of Connecticut gun-owning residents have chosen to flip the bird at the State and not register.
