My grandchildren are 16, 14, 6 and 2
The 14 year old is my elite girls fast pitch softball player who is the second ranked 3rd baseman and catcher in ohio. She also as freshman in high school was the JV volleyball SETTER. Her mother (my daughter) was a great V-ballplayer who also was an excellent setter and played on the Division 1 NCAA University of Cincinnati womens volleyball team and now is passing all that talent on to her daughter. She and her family live close by and we are close as a family unit.
Her son, my oldest grandchild, is a phenomenal athlete in his own right. As a sophomore this year he was the starting strong safety of the Varsity football team in Ohio BIG SCHOOL division. This school has 3,000 students.
He also is a Varsity Wrestler and Hitter on the varsity volleyball team. He is a great shortstop/pitcher too in baseball. Played for elite teams and was highly sought after.
So these kids are pretty active and also on the dean's list at high school.
Their mother has a PHD in micro biology and has high accreditation in forensics, biology, anatomy. She is the senior teacher at the High School in the science department and chair of same. Her sister who is coming to spend a little time on Thanksgiving is the Corporate Attorney for the largest hospital medical services and supplies medical company in the U.S.
So my children have gone on to exceed their father in their pursuits of academia excellence. And THAT is the result of 18 years of prayers we faithfully gave ourselves to every single day. Our prayers were answered and we are eternally grateful they turned out to be great students and now mentors who give back.
Could not love them more or be more proud of them.
Now we just go to the kids high school games and watch them and encourage them. It's fun being a grandparent.
I suppose it is what one makes out of it. We have truly been blessed and now we simply want to grow old together and enjoy the kids and grandkids. Of course, I still cannot just just lay around. I need to be busy so I am helping other companies and providing services and expertise to them.
