Chromecast is a little $35 part you can buy at Best Buy ( http://www.bestbuy.com/site/google-chromecast-black/4397400.p?skuId=4397400 )

Oh dear, and now you have wasted even more time on me.
While I sincerely appreciate it, De, it would be the most ridiculous waste of time for me to try this.
----------------------

I prefer Chromecast since it can do Netflix and Youtube and I use those two instead of paying for cable TV channels. It saves me a few $$ every month.

As wonderful as this sounds, "A man has got to know his limitations." I know mine. I get to pay $150/ish per month to watch the 7 channels you get.
Subscription service for anything decent.

Your TV remote allows you to change the TV's channels, right?

Correct

===================

That's why you don't need a TV antenna if you have cable

I want a tv antenna, De. I don't want a cable box and I only want one remote.

My cable box is set on 4. Little did Edgar know that I would ever use that information. ohgod
----------------------

The cable guy put away your TV remote because you were using it by mistake and tuning the TV to something other than channel 2.

I didn't realize that I was, but apparently so.
Another reason that I have to buy a wig, as I am always pulling my hair out.

You just weren't made for these times, kathy. That's not a bad thing. There's something to be said for leading a simpler life.

I WASN'T!! All I want to do is tend to my sheep, but will they let me? Oh boy, are you ever right about leading a simpler life. Recently, I started using those power cords to charge "things" in different rooms. I can't stand the wires, in addition to not knowing what they belong to - and I still have wires all over the floor by my desk.

Welp, you seem to be posting to one (rampant mental illness). De, whoever thought of all these things should be put before a firing squad.

I admit it: I can't cope with this carp.

Thank-you for taking the time to explain this, and I hope somebody here can gain some knowledge from your post, because it didn't help me, but nothing would.

omg

Re: “You're kidding, right? Here's the thing: even if I knew what you were talking about

A Chromecast is a little $35 part you can buy at Best Buy (
http://www.bestbuy.com/site/google-chromecast-black/4397400.p?skuId=4397400 ) that will "cast" internet videos and sound on your PC/laptop to televisions instead. It's pretty nice and everyone who watches videos via the internet really should get one. Once you start casting, you can usually continue using your PC/laptop for other purposes or even turn it off and the TV will continue showing the video you cast to it. For instance, I can use Netflix to start watching 'Star Wars' on my laptop, then cast it to my TV and turn off the laptop.

Chromecast has competitors that do pretty much the same thing. There's something called a "Roku stick." There's an "AnyCast dongle." Amazon sells a "Fire stick." They differ mostly in whose videos they're able to push to your TV. I prefer Chromecast since it can do Netflix and Youtube and I use those two instead of paying for cable TV channels. It saves me a few $$ every month.

Re: “the cable man told me today that I am not allowed to use the remote control. They hooked up my new televisions the other day, and they have had to return each day since then. This last guy, Edgar, told me to NEVER TOUCH THE T.V. REMOTE CONTROL AGAIN. He also told me that they can't keep coming to my house everyday.”

Okay. Here's how cable works.

Your TV remote allows you to change the TV's channels, right? When you get cable, the cable box broadcasts over a wire to your TV as if it is a television station - usually channel 2. That's why you don't need a TV antenna if you have cable. Your only reception from that point on comes from the cable box. The TV has to stay on channel 2.

When you you use your cable remote to change channels - to channel 300, for instance - the cable box figures out what channel 300 should display and then sends that image to your TV as channel 2.

The cable guy put away your TV remote because you were using it by mistake and tuning the TV to something other than channel 2. At that point, the cable box was sending you channel 300 as if it were channel 2 but it didn't matter because your TV was no longer set to channel 2.

It makes sense, trust me.

You just weren't made for these times, kathy. That's not a bad thing. There's something to be said for leading a simpler life.

IMO, the complexity of life today is a big contributor to the rampant mental illness that exists in our society. And it will keep getting worse.
