In July, the NY Times reviewed Bernstein's Mass
De, I couldn't care less about the NY Times, and what they said in their review of Mass was really harsh and demeaning. These are kids, who worked really hard on their performance. I didn't know this was held in Lincoln Center. I went to school with a gal whose Dad was a book reviewer for the New York Times. His letters to her were hysterically funny. The family had Mom, Dad and twelve kids. My friend idolized her Dad.
Then we had a reunion at my house a couple of years later.
Seems the New York Times book reviewer left his wife, her Mom, and began an affair with a much younger woman, who also worked at the New York Slimes. Apparently he had started his fling while still married and when he married the second time to THE BABE, she was pregnant.
These kinds of things happen everyday, I realize. But my friend never spoke to her Dad again.
You're lucky to have a son. Daughters hold grudges.
Joey was playing the piano, right.
I thought the first half of the "Mass" was very well done. I did make note of 51:50, the umbrella scene and I really enjoyed it.
Looking forward to Part II, but it will probably be tomorrY.
BUNCH OF SNOBS AT THE NEW YORK TIMES. I don't have a dawg, but if I did, I would let him/her pee on that newspaper.
----------------
“Mass” (1971) now exists mainly as a stale memento of the aftermath of the liberalizations in Catholic ritual inspired by the Second Vatican Council.
I don't know if you realize this or not, but I am a product of the Catholic schools from start to finish. I am so appalled by the behavior of the priests, the secrecy, the money they have and their general attitude of being better than anyone else.
However, the above quote from their review, c/p above, I have to say that I agree with it.
I am a non-practicing Catholic.
The honey and I have discussed the Catholic Church for years. He was a believer. He bought their b.s. hook, line and sinker. I am not (a believer) in this regard: I am banished to hell for eternity for throwing away a piece of paper in the 2nd grade. That's a quote from Sister Mary Catherine.
I always thought that they brainwashed us. My honey is extremely bright and educated, and I could never understand his acceptance of what they did to us.
Welp, that was sure a long way to tell you that even though this is the Catholic Mass (sorry but blecck)
I still enjoyed Part I.
Thank you so much.
Where was Joey? Also, the video was well done. You have quite the steady hand.
