Oh, the stick loses power?
With the weakening of the American economy (due to bad trade deals
and the obozo administrations missteps) 'We' could not afford to
be a 'superpower' . . . With our economy growing and the theft of
American intellectual properties being stopped (stifling the Chinese
economy) 'We' can now afford to build more military machinery.

Our stick, under Trump, is slated to get bigger.

Zim.

Trump is making offers the world can refuse – by reshaping trade deals, dispensing with American sops and forcing powerful corporations to return home, the US is regaining economic wealth but relinquishing global power.

While I see the point being made here, but the Donald promised to have our competitors pay up, and we voted for him based on that, and of course, other things.
I still want him to do this. So we're regaining economic wealth, which I approve of, but relinquishing global power ... ok, I get it but I don't agree with it.

--------------------

Ironically, the success of Trump’s policies will hasten the demise of the American empire: the US regaining economic health but losing its insidious hold over the world.

For some reason, I don't agree with this, either. I don't believe we are losing our hold over the world.

HOWEVER,".............This diminishing influence was highlighted when India and seven other countries geared up to defy Washington’s re-imposition of its unilateral, illegal sanctions against Iran, starting Monday....." THIS COMING MONDAY, excuse me, but I didn't know that.

DON'T LIKE THIS, EITHER: The US State Department granting “permission” on the weekend to the eight countries to buy Iranian oil was akin to waving the green flag at a train that has already left the station. Oooooh, I don't like this, either. Heard today that oil was going for $60, but the gas stations haven't gotten the memo
==================.

The maverick 45th president of the United States may succeed at being an economic messiah to his country, which has racked up a $21.6 trillion debt, but the fallout is the death of American hegemony. These are the declining days of the last empire standing.

While possible, I am looking at the author and his source (Asia Times newspaper): by By Raja Murthy
Asia Times. Is this wishful thinking on his part?

--------------

but instead (the Donald) is alienating the international community– from badgering NATO and other countries to pay more for hosting the US legions (800 military bases in 80 countries) to reducing US aid.

IMO, we don't have to do much against these folks for them to resent us. No matter whether the Donald does withhold monies for this and that, they despise us even when WE GIVE THEM TONS OF MONEY. He can't win, period.
==================

bullying doctrine of US presidents.....
RAJA - dunno, kiddo. The Prez is trying to save us OUR MONEY, and you call it bullying. I don't agree.
================

the stick loses power as the carrot vanishes

Like anything else, this is possible. I am an American and damn proud of it. I detest other countries taking our dough and then voting against us at every opportunity, especially at the UN.

The bottom line for me is that I do not care for Raja Murthy, nor the Asia Times.

If it's an op/ed, fine.

If it isn't, then get stuffed.
