There is that.
What happened to U.S. in Vietnam? Insurgents from N. Vietnam (with Russian financing) . . . and a war of
attrition till we gave up and sought a way out.

The Russians in Afghanistan? Similar thing except it
was Saudi and American moneys and American armaments
for the mujaheedin.

I believe shoveling a hundred thousand G.I.s was an
incredibly stupid thing for barak Obama to do. Really
now, what could he have accomplished by that?

But we also can not completely ignore Afghanistan either.
Last time we did that Osama bin laden set up 'terrorists
for hire' there and 'somebody' (my bet is saddam Hussein)
funneled lots of money to them so he could commit 9-11.

I like what Bush did. Just enough troops to keep a lid
on the place, an understanding of how things work in
Afghanistan so that we can 'help' them to find a way
to instill rule of law and 'We' can hammer any terrorists
that try to set up shop in Afghanistan.
