If I was in Grassley's place, I wouldn't force Ms. Ford to do anything. I would simply offer her an opportunity to testify to the committee under oath, behind closed doors if she so wished, but subject to cross-examination. If she chooses not to accept within a short but reasonable amount of time, then I would move on and hold the vote. There really is nothing Grassley can do to set right this monstrous slander by Democrats ... because Democrats are shamelessly petulant infants ... they're going to wallow in their own filth and continue to spew this ridiculous slander, no matter what. You simply have to learn to consider the preposterous source and ignore them.
Personally, I strongly believe that Ms. Ford has been badly used and abused by her Democrat betters. Ms. Ford has ultimately brought this on herself, but I do not believe she ever in her wildest dreams wanted it to go this far.
I truly think it all went down something like this:
1. Ms. Ford became "convinced" that her quack psychologist "recovered" a "repressed memory" of her being assaulted when she was a teenager some 30 years prior. She doesn't think too much of it at the time because she can't remember when it happened, where it happened, how she got there, who was there, and how she got home. She does remember that she was drunk off her ass. In other words, her "repressed memory" is so extremely sketchy that she KNOWS it is at least 99.99% bullsh!t and not actionable in any way, shape, or form.
2. Sometime afterward, Ms. Ford, being a typical, clueless card-carrying-Democrat-stooge, wanted to impress the other stooges within her circle of libtard friends and acquaintances, so she stupidly trotted out her rape fantasy that was elicited from the cobwebbed recesses of her cranium by her quack psychologist. In spite of the fact that she knew her story was total bullsh!t, she desperately wanted to earn "victim brownie points" from her fellow libtards for being "assaulted by a high-level Republican judge." Ms. Ford didn't think it would go any further than that ... and nor did she want it to ... but, she would live to regret her decision to share her fantasies.
3. Word of Ms. Ford's rape fantasy finally made its way to some higher level Democrat operatives and they filed it away in the DNC's dirty tricks cabinet.
4. A few years later, Judge Kavanaugh gets nominated to be the next U.S. Supreme Court Justice, and since Kavanaugh does NOT worship at the altar of Karl Marx, the infantile Democrats immediately go into high dudgeon and scurry willy-nilly from behind the baseboards to find any lie and innuendo they can to derail this nomination by President Trump. Voila ... Ms. Ford's rape fantasy pops out of the DNC's dirty tricks cabinet.
5. Democrat operatives track down Ms. Ford and convince her, for the "good" of Socialism and the continuance of mass infanticide, that she should be a cooperative lil' libtard drone, write down her rape fantasy, and hand it over to her Democrat betters for "use at the proper time." Ms. Ford is naturally hesitant about all of this because she knows her story is total, insubstantial bullsh!t, so she asks for complete anonymity. Her Democrat betters lie to her and say, "Of course! We'll make it so you never have to explain yourself. Don't worry!"
6. Judge Kavanaugh is a stellar nominee who is strongly deserving of confirmation. All the Democrat clowns can do is make fools of themselves ... "I AM Spartacus!" ... and throw childish temper tantrums ... but, to no avail ... they know their petty obstruction is lost. So, what are desperate Democrats to do, eh? They go deeper into the gutter, of course, and throw their reluctant lil' minion under the bus by outing her. But, they tell Ms. Ford not to worry because George Soros will pay for the best libtard attorneys and the Democrats will go on the offensive to say that, even though she is the one bringing forth ridiculously insubstantial accusations from 36 years ago that will be used to destroy an honorable man and his family, she, as the supposed "victim," shouldn't have any responsibility for substantiating her ludicrous accusations that her Democrat betters coerced her into making. Meanwhile, Ms. Ford is cowering in fear because she absolutely does not want to testify under oath about her rape fantasy that she KNOWS is total bullsh!t.
So, even though Ms. Ford is culpable in the broadcasting of this absurd lie about Judge Kavanaugh, she IS a victim ... not of Brett Kavanaugh, but of her Democrat betters, who took her little indiscretion with the truth among her small circle of friends and acquaintances and maliciously threw it out on the national stage.
