I have replaced brushes in alternators before which is one reason I do know they have them and secondly, since my father owned a fleet of over 100 school buses and had to keep them serviced, we replaced worn out brushes on alternators on a regular basis as well.
Automobiles have them also. They press against a rotating inner stator and that is why eventually they wear down...
You can look this up online as well. I already did looking for other solutions but the first one most people look at is brushes and then after that diodes. Brushes are easy to replace and cheap...
I would still check for a local guy that repairs alternators and at least have it looked at if I were De. Still may well be a lot less than buying another one...
