On today's Daily Daily Caller Podcast, we talk about the wet blanket tossed on the idea of "Medicare for All." Bernie Sanders wants socialized medicine in the United States but refuses to say how much it would cost, so a libertarian think tank decided to run the numbers and they are huge.
Of course, liberals immediately expressed outrage over the $32 trillion price tag, accusing the Mercatus Center of corruption because they've received money from the Koch network. But the left-wing Urban Institute ran the numbers a few months back and came up with the same thing. This exposed a truth liberals don't want people to know - socialism is incredibly expensive, "free" is never free.

But it's not just the cost in dollars, it's the cost in quality and access. Price controls and rationing care are the only tools a government has to control costs in socialized medicine. Are Americans willing to give up access and accept long wait times in the name of the "cause"? No one wants a hip replacement surgery because they have nothing better to do on a Tuesday; they need one because they're in pain. Would they accept a six-month wait to get it done "for justice"?
"Six months"? Could be a helluva lot longer than that! I know of some Canadian parents who fortunately had the financial wherewithal to send their son to a Chicago hospital to have his knee put back together (hockey injury) because the Canadian health system had already performed their quota of knee surgeries for the year and he would have to wait for 9 MONTHS until the next year rolled around to get his knee fixed!!! Meanwhile, all of his snapped ligaments would have withered away by the time the Canadian hospital got around to seeing him.
