Feds slip into Portland's ICE headquarters as protesters sleep outside

A team of federal law enforcement officers entered Portland's Immigration and Customs Enforcement headquarters early Monday morning as dozens of protesters camped in tents outside the building, the site of a week-long demonstration, Oregon's U.S. Attorney's Office said.

ICE and Federal Protective Service agents entered the Southwest Macadam Avenue offices in order to "secure government property," according to a brief news release sent to media just after 3:30 a.m. The news release provided no other information.

Robert Sperling, a Federal Protective Service spokesman, told The Oregonian/OregonLive he did not know of any attempts by individuals to illegally enter the facility or tamper with items inside.

As of 7:15 a.m., the federal agents appeared to still be in the building.

Portland's ICE headquarters has been the site of a week-long protest and round-the-clock occupation by activists over the Trump administration's immigration policies. ICE officials suspended its operations at the building last Tuesday as the so-called Occupy ICE PDX movement grew in size. ...
