You know what, OCU? 30 police officers have been shot to death in the line of duty so far this year - and we're not even half way through, yet! Encounters between police and suspects can escalate to a life-threatening situation in a split-second. Let's look at what we know so far about the Antwon Rose shooting:
1. Antwon Rose was riding in the car that was the subject of an APB for a drive-by shooting that had occurred just a little while before. An incident where shots were fired all over a neighborhood and one man was wounded. The car matched the description given and it had bullet holes in its rear window.
2. The officer's partner was beside the car, in a vulnerable position, trying to handcuff the driver when, all of a sudden ... despite being ordered to stay put ... Antwon Rose and another man jumped out of the car.
3. Two guns were found in the suspects' car.
Now, I'm not saying that the officer should be automatically exonerated ... no, we should allow the ongoing investigation to be completed. But, let's dispense with this disingenuous insinuation that Antwon Rose was murdered in cold blood by a racist police officer. And, let's also dispense with the stupid notion that Antwon Rose was some angelic choir boy who was innocently in the wrong place at the wrong time - PUHLEEEEEEEEEEASE! He was participating in a drive-by shooting!
