They check what little rationality they possess at the door, dutifully follow the leftist group-think passed down by their betters, and allow their adolescent emotions to inform their decision as to what is proper and what is not based solely on whether they agree with the message being delivered.
However, if the bosses of ABC believe that Roseanne's statements have done harm to their television show by pissing off the fans, they have every right to fire her - just like the NFL franchise owners have every right to fine or fire any player whose behavior harms the business of the NFL.
