That's my theory.
Robots and AI will eliminate all of the jobs. Governments will impose huge taxes on the corporations and put everyone else on welfare. Corporations will go along with it because governments control the armed forces, but corporations will eventually hire or build their own security forces and it will then be impossible for governments to force them to pay. Corporations will, essentially, have become nations unto themselves.
When that happens, the world will be owned by a handful of very powerful people, and the masses will starve.
