Yeah, there used to be a similar website where you could bid on firearms - $1 per bid. So, when I first looked at it, years ago, it appeared to me (and probably to everyone else, as well!) that one could simply wait until right before the scheduled closing time for any particular auction. So, I sat back and watched a few auctions in process. If there were any bids in the last 15 seconds, the closing time would get pushed back a few minutes - therefore, if it was a desirable item, the auction would go on indefinitely and the website would continue to rake in money. I decided that this was just a big scam and didn't want to have anything to do with it.

For the past year or so, I've seen these DealDash commercials on TV and knew it was the same disingenuous crap. I always laugh when I see the fat woman on their commercial saying, "I WON!!!" Yeah, right ... it's DealDash who WON!!! ... because they aren't showing the hundreds (maybe thousands?) of other bidders on that particular auction who could easily stand up there and say, "I LOST!!!"

I took a look at Dealdash.com this evening. It's another auction site. I figured it might be like Tophatter.com but the similarity is minimal.

I would *never* try buying on Dealdash. The auctions start at a penny and take about ten seconds to climb another penny. Right there you've lost me. Each auction would take a LONG time to complete!

You have to buy bids from Dealdash before you start bidding. They cost 15¢ apiece. So if you see an item selling for one dollar, it means that the prospective buyers have already spent 15 dollars just bidding it up to that price.

They have items actively selling at prices above $200! That means, collectively, people have spent $3,000 bidding and haven't even won yet! At ten seconds spent on every penny increase in the bid, a $200 item has been auctioning for about 55 hours.

It's hard to believe anyone would be stupid enough to get involved in this thing. But people have.
