I disagree.
What we are talking about here is behavioral. Each and every one of us have personal weaknesses that, if we gave into them, could cause us to act out in unacceptable or even harmful ways that no one would condone - even the person acting badly. A personal predilection for abnormal or harmful behavior is not a disease ... it is something we should acknowledge about ourselves and do our best to utilize self-control to overcome - NOT make excuses for it, or even worse, unabashedly revel in it like many of the homosexuals do. Unless one is insane, each of us is personally responsible for our own behavior. Trotting out the "disease defense" is just a cop-out to excuse a person's failure to exercise self-control.

Call it what you will, but I kissed a little girl next door (Jeanine Bobko) when I was TWO, and my best friend's three year old sister (Lizzie Lewis) when I was FOUR. At no age would I for a second have considered kissing a boy. I've never been remotely interested.
But certain people apparently have the same sort of "intense desire" (as you put it) for their OWN sex. Something is clearly wrong in their heads. I don't think it's too much of a reach to call that a disease.
