A shooting club in New Jersey is under fire for a set of billboards which some have deemed "racist."
A few weeks ago, Wesley Aducat, the owner of the South Jersey Shooting Club in Winslow Township, put up two billboards advertising his business in the area.
The advertisements show the silhouette of a gunman who is kneeling and taking aim with a rifle. The billboards read: "The only time we take a knee..."
The advertisement is a reference to the NFL players who have been taking a knee during the National Anthem to protest racial inequalities. Many have criticized the players for kneeling, saying it's disrespectful to the troops. ...
Susan Druckenbrod, a member of South Jersey Women for Progressive Change, says that she called the club to complain and got this response:
"I told them the billboard was offensive, and he said, 'That's nice,' and he hung up," she said. ...
Sounds like a wholly responsible and appropriate response to me!
Despite the controversy that his ads have caused, Aducat {gun range owner} says he has no intention of taking them down. ...
Others felt that those who support the NFL protesters First Amendment rights were not extending the same respect to those with a different view.
"How ironic, they want to exercise their 1st amendment rights but if you disagree, criticize or have a different opinion, they want to shut our first amendment right down," a man named Mark Bilinski wrote.
Many agreed that the owner has the right to say whatever he wants on a billboard, just like the NFL players have the right to protest. ...
